About a year ago, I met a wonderful group of women. The one thing the 5 of us have in common, is that we are married to Danish men and now live in Denmark. 2 from the USA, 1 from Canada, 1 from UK and me from Australia. The thing is, even though we are all different, have differing interests and life circumstances, we all understand each other. We understand what it's like to live in a foreign country, with your own family living far away, some with a better "in-law" network than others, learning a new language, becoming acquainted with life in Denmark, the joys of raising bi-lingual children, the challenges of acquiring residency in Denmark, and someone to laugh at all the "Danglish" we use. A group of friends where we can speak English together, relax and enjoy one another's company and share experiences with each other. Friends who understand.
Today my wonderful English speaking girls threw a "baby shower" for me. That is, a little party to honour and celebrate that I will soon be a mother again...for the third time. We ate yummy food and relaxed in the backyard together, and ate the most delicious and pretty cupcakes I've ever eaten. We talked and laughed, and talked some more. It was wonderfully relaxing and uplifting.
Thank you God for friends, and the sweetness they bring to our lives!
